How It Works
When the browser supports Intl.Segmenter, the counter uses Unicode word and grapheme segmentation. That handles scripts without spaces and multi-code-point emoji more accurately than splitting on spaces or JavaScript string units. The fallback recognizes Unicode letters and numbers. Sentence counting uses runs of periods, question marks, and exclamation marks; paragraphs are non-empty blocks separated by blank lines.

Editing the Text You Just Measured
A count tells you the size of a problem, not how to fix it. Overlong drafts usually shrink fastest by removing repeated lines from pasted notes, and inconsistent headings are quicker to fix with the case converter than by retyping.
When a limit is enforced somewhere else, the text usually has to travel: encoding it for a URL or checking a field inside a JSON payload is where character limits actually bite. To see what changed between two drafts, compare them line by line.
What Counts as a Word or Character?
Words are language segments, not simply every token between spaces. A hyphenated phrase, apostrophe, URL, emoji, or Japanese text can be segmented differently by language-aware browser rules. Characters are grapheme clusters where supported, so a family emoji or accented character is treated closer to what a reader sees on screen.

Important Edge Cases
- Abbreviations such as “Dr.” can increase the punctuation-based sentence count.
- A decimal or domain name containing a period can be mistaken for a sentence ending.
- Segmentation can vary slightly by browser and language data.
Limitations
- The result is an editorial aid, not a grammar parser.
- Reading speed varies by reader, subject, and language.
- Multi-megabyte drafts are debounced but can still take noticeable time to segment, especially on a phone.
- Platform and application limits should be checked at the destination because they can change.

The draft is counted inside the page. It is not submitted to Tiny Tiny Tools or included in a tool-specific analytics event.
Google Analytics records page visits and whether a tool finished or failed, but these tool implementations do not send field values, generated passwords, QR payloads, uploaded QR images, or camera frames to analytics or a Tiny Tiny Tools processing endpoint.

Does the character count include spaces?
The page shows both totals. Characters includes whitespace; Characters (no spaces) removes whitespace before counting.
How is reading time calculated?
Word count is divided by 200 words per minute and rounded for display. It is an estimate, not a personal reading-speed measurement.
Why can a sentence count be unexpected?
Sentence detection is punctuation-based. Abbreviations, decimals, and web addresses can contain periods that do not end sentences.
Does it count multilingual text?
Modern browsers use Unicode language segmentation, which can identify words in many scripts without relying only on spaces. Browser results can still vary.
