Range syntax

Commas separate selections and a hyphen marks an inclusive range. Page numbers are one-based, so the first page is 1.

Splitting as a Size Strategy

Extraction is the one lossless way to make a PDF smaller. Where the compressor rasterizes pages and costs you selectable text, dropping the pages nobody needs costs nothing at all — the remaining pages are untouched.

Extracted pages often need finishing: rotating scans that came in sideways, reordering the sequence, or merging the section into another document. If the recipient only wants to look at a page rather than file it, exporting it as a JPG is simpler than sending a PDF.

Document Features After Extraction

Each result is a newly created PDF. Visible page content and page dimensions are copied, but document-level structure does not necessarily follow the selected pages.

  • Bookmarks and original document metadata are not guaranteed.
  • Internal links may point to pages that are no longer present.
  • A simple test omitted the AcroForm catalog even though a page annotation remained, so form behavior must be verified.
  • Editing a digitally signed PDF can invalidate the existing signature.

Important Limitations

  • Duplicate or overlapping selections are rejected to prevent accidental repeated pages.

  • New files may not retain bookmarks, form behavior, metadata, or valid digital signatures.
  • Encrypted PDFs are unsupported.
