How to Rotate a PDF Online — 4 Easy Steps

Controls and Method

Rotate right

Turns the selected pages one quarter-turn clockwise.

Rotate left

Turns the selected pages one quarter-turn counterclockwise, the same direction as 270° clockwise.

Repeated turns

A second click produces 180°. A third click is 270° from the original orientation.

Rotation, Order, and Scans

Rotation is metadata, not pixels, so it costs nothing and changes no content — which also means it will not reduce the file size. If the scan is heavy as well as sideways, compressing it is a separate job.

Documents scanned in one pass tend to be wrong in more than one way. Once the pages are upright, putting them in the right order and dropping the pages you do not need usually finishes the cleanup.

Rotation Is Not Cropping or Resizing

A portrait page rotated 90° is displayed sideways as a landscape-oriented view, but the tool does not trim margins or scale the content. If a scan includes unwanted edges, rotation alone will not remove them.

Advanced PDF Features

Rotation saves the same PDF container instead of copying pages into a new one. A simple test fixture retained its title metadata and form field catalog after rotation. More specialized forms, annotations, links, bookmarks, and viewer behavior should still be checked, and any cryptographic signature may become invalid because the document bytes change.

  • Fix one landscape page in an otherwise portrait document.
  • Normalize mixed orientations before printing.

Important Limitations

  • The tool changes page rotation metadata; it does not rotate only one image or text object within a page.
  • Printed orientation marks or sideways content baked into an image may behave differently across unusual PDFs.
  • Saving a signed PDF may invalidate its signature.
  • Encrypted documents are unsupported.
