How It Works
The converter reads what you type from left to right and always takes the longest match it knows, so "chh" is read as छ before "ch" can claim it, and "aa" as ा before "a". A consonant followed by a vowel takes that vowel’s sign; a consonant followed by another consonant is joined to it with a halant (्), which is how त्र, क्र and श्र form without special rules. A consonant followed by "a" keeps its built-in vowel, so type the a wherever the Devanagari word writes a full letter. Capitals matter only where Nepali has two letters for one English one: t and T (त, ट), d and D (द, ड), n and N (न, ण), sh and Sh (श, ष).

Text in braces is copied unchanged, ~ adds chandrabindu, and a full stop becomes the Nepali danda (।).

The Basic Letters
Vowels have two forms: the full letter used at the start of a word or after another vowel, and the sign used after a consonant. The converter picks the right one from what comes before.

Why Unicode, Not Preeti
A lot of Nepali text is still typed in legacy fonts such as Preeti. Those fonts draw Devanagari shapes over ordinary English letters, so the text is only Nepali while that exact font is installed: paste it into an email, a phone or a search box and it turns into strings of Latin letters. Unicode Devanagari stores the Nepali letters themselves, so it reads correctly everywhere and can be searched and sorted.
Once your text is in Unicode, the site’s text tools work on it too: count its words and characters, compare two drafts or remove repeated lines from a list of names. If the text is a letter that needs a date or an amount, convert the date to Bikram Sambat and write the amount in Nepali words.
Important Edge Cases
- ri on its own gives रि, which is right for words like गिरि; the vowel sign ृ needs a capital R, as in kRpaa.
- gy gives ग्य (भाग्य); the letter ज्ञ needs Gy or jny.
- ng before another letter becomes ङ्ग, which is how गङ्गा and अङ्ग्रेजी are written; at the end of a word it is a plain ङ.
- A full stop becomes the danda (।). Put a full stop inside braces, {.}, to keep it as a full stop.
Limitations
- It follows spelling rules, not a dictionary, so it cannot fix a misspelled word or choose between two valid spellings.
- Whether a consonant keeps its inherent vowel depends on the a you type; it does not guess pronunciation.
- It does not convert Preeti or other legacy-font text into Unicode.

Your text is converted in your browser as you type. Nothing is sent to a server or added to the URL.
Google Analytics records page visits and whether a tool finished or failed, but these tool implementations do not send field values, generated passwords, QR payloads, uploaded QR images, or camera frames to analytics or a Tiny Tiny Tools processing endpoint.

Questions About This Tool
How do I type ऋ or the ृ sign?
Use a capital R: kRpaa gives कृपा and RShi gives ऋषि. A lowercase ri gives रि.
How do I type ज्ञ?
Type Gy or jny: Gyaan and jnyaan both give ज्ञान. Lowercase gy gives ग्य, as in भाग्य.
How do I type chandrabindu?
Put a tilde after the vowel: chaa~d gives चाँद and hu~ gives हुँ. For the anusvara dot (ं), use a capital M.
How do I keep an English word unchanged?
