How to Watermark a PDF — 4 Simple Steps

  1. Upload your PDFAdd one document up to 50 MiB and 1,000 pages. It stays in this browser tab.

Controls and Method

Opacity

How much of the page shows through, from 5% to 100%. Around 30% keeps a diagonal stamp readable without hiding the text under it.

Rotation

Any angle from −180° to 180°, with one-tap presets at 0°, 45°, 90° and −45°. Diagonal is the default for text.

Position

A nine-point grid. The mark keeps a half-inch margin so it never runs into a printer’s trim area.

Repeat

Tiles the mark across the whole page, spacing it from its own rotated size so the pattern stays even at any angle.

Apply to

All pages, the page you are previewing, or a custom range written like 1, 3, 5-8.

Watermarks, Order, and Size

A watermark is added on top of the page, so it cannot recover space — the file grows a little. If the document is already heavy, compressing it is the separate job.

Marking usually comes last. Putting the pages in order, dropping what you do not need and joining the parts are all easier before a stamp is sitting on top of them.

Add a Text Watermark to PDF

Text is drawn with one of three standard PDF fonts — Helvetica, Times or Courier — so nothing extra is embedded and the file stays small. CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT and SAMPLE are one tap away, and any other wording can be typed.

Add an Image or Logo Watermark to PDF

A PNG, JPG or WebP image can be stamped instead. The size control is a fraction of the page’s shorter side and the aspect ratio comes from the image itself, so a logo is never stretched. Transparent backgrounds are preserved: nothing white is painted behind the image.

Apply Watermarks to Specific PDF Pages

A range like 1, 3, 5-8 is checked against the real page count before anything is written, so a page that does not exist is reported rather than silently skipped. Pages outside the range are copied through untouched.

Important Limitations

  • The mark is drawn into the page content, so removing it later is not straightforward — keep the original file.

  • Encrypted or password-protected documents are unsupported.

Can I add a watermark to every page of a PDF?

Not reliably. The mark is drawn into the page content rather than stored as a separate removable layer, so it may not come off cleanly. Keep the original PDF if you will need an unmarked copy.
