How to Use This Tool

Text

Adds editable overlay text with a chosen color and font size using browser-safe PDF editor controls.

Edit existing text

Detects selectable PDF text and creates an aligned visual replacement when you click a text block. A white rectangle covers the old appearance and editable new text is placed above it.

Images and marks

Images, highlights, rectangles, and freehand paths remain movable editor objects until export.

What “Replace Text” Means

Arbitrary PDF text is not stored like text in a word processor. This editor uses visual replacement: it covers the chosen area and places new text above it.

  • The underlying text may remain searchable, selectable, or recoverable.
  • A whiteout can cover nearby lines if its rectangle is too large.
  • Replacement text may not match an embedded source font.
  • Redaction requires a dedicated sanitizing workflow; a white rectangle is not secure redaction.

Preservation and Export

The editor retains the original pages and adds a transparent visual overlay to each changed page. This avoids rasterizing the whole source, but a newly saved PDF can still affect signatures, forms, annotations, metadata, and other advanced document behavior.

Important Limitations

  • Visual replacement does not remove underlying text or securely redact content.
  • Text detection works on text-based PDFs; scanned pages need OCR before their text can be selected.
  • Embedded source fonts are not reused automatically.
  • Password-protected PDFs are rejected.
  • Digital signatures and advanced interactive features must be verified after saving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I edit existing PDF text?

For text-based PDFs, choose Edit existing text and click a detected text block to place an editable visual replacement in the same location. The original PDF content stream is not rewritten.

Is whiteout the same as secure redaction?

No. It only covers visible content. The underlying text may remain in the file and must not be considered removed.

Can I add my own image?

Yes. Add a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image, then move, resize, or rotate it on the selected page.

Does editing upload my PDF?

No. Rendering, editing, and PDF creation run in this browser tab.

Will forms and signatures still work?

Not guaranteed. Saving changes can affect document-level features and invalidate digital signatures, so verify the downloaded file.
